New Poem


Everywhere We Went

that summer there was ice-cream—
blueberry with butter cookie
raspberry with chocolate crumb—
while bombs kept falling
while streets drizzled with blood
someone had colluded
someone had ordered it so
while we were happy
as happy as we could be
given the unpredictable temperatures
given our need to be free.
